Fun/boredom will officially end in about 12 hours

But meanwhile, during my hours of browsing, I've found some really sweet stuff, like the lovechild of the Times and McSweeney's, and Samurai's Champloo awesome homepage, and went through the archives of the Sachs Report.

And I swear, the piano room beneath my room has been in use since I stepped foot into Pfoho. I actually got to use it yesterday, and I guess I understand why it's so busy, cuz the Steinway grand there is probably the best piano to practice on on campus as like all good Steinways, it makes you sound sooo good, and makes you feel like a better pianist. Still though, this 24/7 practicing is getting ridiculous. I woke up this morning to a clarinet/oboe, and since then I've heard violin, piano, piano and oboe, and more piano. If I were more bored and/or more of a dork, I'd probably start a blog about all the music I hear, and title it "Beethoven Lives Downstairs" or something. But for now I'll just sit, get hit with the occasional pang of jealousy, and hope this doesn't continue everyday.

more misadventures

Me: (giving a hint to a puzzle) Ok, it's something people do when they're together.
Student: Drink?
Me: No, little kids do it too.
Student: Drink?

Another highlight was when the whole table of kids got into a discussion about how to kill yourself if you're in a subway car and its pitch black. :
They're good kids though. Got a lotta spunk.

From the M.I.A. concert Sunday:

M.I.A. and her two backup dancers. Yeah they were dressed strangely. M.I.A. managed to exude funky but the dancers just looked bad.

Here's a short clip from "Sunshowers" I think.
My crappy camera caved shortly after that.

I was gonna get pics from Dean for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but I figure you could just see them on his blog anyway. They were awesome!

I am a SAT math teacher

Me: Anyone have any more questions?
Student: How many Tylenols does it take to kill yourself?
*ensue discussion about the logistics of Tylenol and suicide*

Apparently many of the students know people who've tried to kill themself. Isn't that a little creepy? Or maybe I just haven't had a proper inner-city public school experience. Their conversation was amusing anyway, if unnerving.

On a lighter note, I was in a Chinese bakery and saw a man buy a cake. He politely and earnestly asked the cashier for eight candles. The scene had such a cinematic, Charlie-Bucket-finding-the-golden-ticket sweetness about it. I hope his kid has a nice birthday party.

site plug

Subtleimpulse is back!

Man, it's so much easier to turn out these quick n dirty layouts for SI than to actually work on my own site. And more fun too.

I also started exploring Podcasts, which are actually really cool. I thought they were only for the iPod at first, and then I wondered why people would listen to old radio shows n such, but I see how it's a great way to catch up on all sorts of news and trends and stuff. And now I can listen to Morning Becomes Eclectic shows, which I've been meaning to do regularly but never got around to.

And, the stuff at Good Experience Games is addictive. Too addictive. *sigh*

recent activity

So after I emailed my tutoring kids some chem questions, one of them replies "will do, captain Karen Feng." Hee, these kids are fun.

Past week's been nice, the annual frenzy that is Palooza, fireworks, Risk and then almost-Risk, catching up with Hunter ppl, pool, and Mao. And a yummy Chinese restaurant dinner, which I think was my first since I've been back, which is weird.

I'm also (slowly) working on my site. It'll look something like this teaser:
tease!

passion

Currently listening to the soundtrack of 2046, and California Dreamin' (from Chungking Express) on repeat. No one can tie music to a film as strongly and sublimely as Wong Kar-Wai does. It's so painfully beautiful. Maybe it's the mild flu I have that's making me woozy, but now I want go to Hong Kong. I'm in the mood for love. (ba-dum-ch!)(boy, that was bad)
