more misadventures

Me: (giving a hint to a puzzle) Ok, it's something people do when they're together.
Student: Drink?
Me: No, little kids do it too.
Student: Drink?

Another highlight was when the whole table of kids got into a discussion about how to kill yourself if you're in a subway car and its pitch black. :
They're good kids though. Got a lotta spunk.

From the M.I.A. concert Sunday:

M.I.A. and her two backup dancers. Yeah they were dressed strangely. M.I.A. managed to exude funky but the dancers just looked bad.

I was gonna get pics from Dean for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, but I figure you could just see them on his blog anyway. They were awesome!

I am a SAT math teacher

Me: Anyone have any more questions?
Student: How many Tylenols does it take to kill yourself?
*ensue discussion about the logistics of Tylenol and suicide*

Apparently many of the students know people who've tried to kill themself. Isn't that a little creepy? Or maybe I just haven't had a proper inner-city public school experience. Their conversation was amusing anyway, if unnerving.

On a lighter note, I was in a Chinese bakery and saw a man buy a cake. He politely and earnestly asked the cashier for eight candles. The scene had such a cinematic, Charlie-Bucket-finding-the-golden-ticket sweetness about it. I hope his kid has a nice birthday party.
